At the end of 2017 GCC worked with the Housing and Building Association (HBA) and the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD) to arrive at a compromise regarding adoption of the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) resulting in greater energy efficiency standards for homes in El Paso County than what would have been adopted otherwise. The proposed code has now passed big hurdles. The Colorado Springs City Council voted to approve the code adoption 9-0 and the El Paso County Board of Commissioners voted to approve it 4-1! The City of Manitou Springs and the Town of Monument have also voted to approve it. Fountain, Green Mountain Falls, Palmer Lake, and Woodland Park still need to vote.
